State Track and Field Championships postponed

MIDDLETOWN, NY - Friday’s portion of the New York State Track and Field Championships have been postponed, due to inclement weather. The meet will begin Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and be condensed into one day.

The meet starts with the boys pentathlon 110 high hurdles and the girls discus. With the exception of the 110 high hurdles, 100 hurdles, 100 and 200, all races will be run as championships, with the Division I, II, and federation championships determined on time, according to NYS Chairman for Boys Track and Field Tom Wells.

Top boys Division I seeds from Long Island include Sayville’s Christopher Belcher in the 100, Kellenberg’s Dylan Murphy in the 800, Connetquot’s John Stallworth in the 110 high hurdles, Smithtown West’s Devin Mirenda in the pentathlon, Jericho’s Noah White in the discus, Smithtown West’s Mike McCann in the high jump, Elmont’s 4X400 meter relay team, and St. Anthony’s 4X800 team.

Top boys Division Two seeds include Bayport- Blue Point’s Jack Flood in the pentathlon and Bayport-Blue Point’s 4X400 and 4X800 relay teams.

Top girls Division I seeds include Garden City’s Emma Gallagher in the 400-hurdles, Ward Melville’s Emily Astarita in the pentathlon, and Bay Shore’s Anisa Toppin in the triple jump.

Friends Academy’s Candace Taylor is the top seed in the Division II 400.
