And here goes another batch of awesome – this week’s installment of Players of the Week. A tribute to the girls who made us “Ring the Alarm” and admire the way they’ve managed to “Upgrade” their teams. (For real, this might be the last week of the Beyonce theme. I’m running out of song titles to pun.)

As always, feel free to hit us up via e-mail or on Twitter (@StephenHaynes4 and @AlbaneseLaura)...

Nassau Girls Lacrosse Rankings

Farmingdale's Amanda Turturro

1. Garden City (6-0) They're at it again, silencing the doubts. The 6-0 start with wins over Manhasset and Massapequa earns them the top spot. 2. Manhasset (4-1) A week ago, the Indians looked a team capable of running the table. One loss doesn't change everything - certainly not a 10-9 defeat in overtime - but their standing does take a hit. 3. Farmingdale (4-0) The Dalers have quietly gone about...

Howdy, lacrosse peoples. I’m going to be out an about covering a boys lacrosse game tomorrow (It doesn’t mean anything! You’re still my main squeeze, girls lacrosse)…so I’m getting a head start on Girls Who Run This World. That’s right: A Special Friday Night Hopped up and Coffee and Imitation Twinkies Edition (it’s a glamorous life we lead).   But wait, you say. What about Saturday’s greatness?...

The Firebirds don’t expect their flame to burn out anytime soon.

Allow the numbers from last season to refresh your memory of just how badly Kellenberg scorched its competition:

189 runs scored.

24 runs allowed.

13 shutouts.

29 wins.

0 losses.

1 state title.

When members of this year’s team are asked how they could possibly top a...

Prepping for Port Washington vs. Oceanside

Port Washington's goalie Nick Ferraro looks to clear

(Credit: Patrick E. McCarthy)

Port Washington boys lacrosse coach Tom Rooney knows Oceanside is a team with three lethal scorers in Will Remsen, Luke Schwasnick and Ryan McCarthy. The game plan for Friday’s Conference I away game at 7 p.m., he said, is to let the top trio get theirs — just don’t let anyone else score.

“I know they are going to play well,” Rooney said. “But we cannot be letting other kids get goals and...

Connetquot tops Sachem North in softball

Catcher Angela Shuler did her damage early and first baseman Kaitlin Muhlenforth did it late in Connetquot’s 5-2 road win over Sachem North in League II play on Thursday.

Confidence growing for SJB boys lacrosse

St. John the Baptist sure didn’t play like a fatigued team without its best player Thursday.

Without Tim Nowak (injured) and playing for the fifth time in seven days, SJB defeated host St. Mary’s, 8-2, in a CHSAA boys lacrosse game. Filling the void left by Nowak, who coach Larry Collins describes as the quarterback of the offense, Christian Turri racked up three goals and an assist.
