Three Long Island fencers win national championships

Three fencers from Long Island won gold medals at the USFA National Championships in Columbus, Ohio that concluded earlier this month.

Ward Melville students Danny Solomon and Carly Weber-Levine and Centereach graduate Stuart Holmes all won national championships in their respective competitions at the tournament, which ran from June 22 to July 3.

Shayna Pirreca starred in her final high school competition last weekend, leading the North All-Stars to an 18-11 victory over the South in the Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic at Towson University.

Pirreca, a Mount Sinai senior, had three goals and two assists and was named MVP.
