Long Island will send three boys basketball teams and two girls basketball teams to the state tournament this weekend. Below is the full weekend schedule:

Though Sachem East walked away victorious yesterday at the Long Island Challenge there were wrestlers from the other teams that had very successful days.
Chief among them was MacArthur’s Steven Schneider. A senior, Schneider is the defending Nassau County champion at 160 pounds and finished second in New York State last season.

It's early in the Private, Independent and Catholic boys basketball season, but it's always good to keep an eye on who's off to a really good start.
St. Anthony’s, St. Dominic, Kellenberg, Holy Trinity, Our Savior New American, Long Island Lutheran and Lawrence Woodmere Academy are several standout teams.

Senior swingman Terry Harris scored 35 points to lead Half Hollow Hills West in their League IV opener at Kings Park.
Hills West head coach Bill Mitaritonna said Harris "shot exceptionally well," and "carried" the team to victory.
The visitors took a 16-4 lead during the first quarter, thanks in large part to their defense.

Lauren "Boogie" Brozoski, the reigning Newsday Long Island Player of the year in Girls Basketball, has committed to play at the University of Michigan for the 2015-2016 season, she confirmed to Newsday via text.
Brozoski, a junior, led Long Island Lutheran to the state Federation Class A Championship last season while averaging nearly 20 points, six assists and two steals per game.
