It was a contrast in offensive styles at Wednesday night's Empire Challenge.
Long Island accumulated 257 yards passing and only four rushing while New York City had 268 yards rushing and 108 through the air. Andrew Ris (Carey) matched Trent Crossan (Sachem North) with three receptions, for 51 yards, and also completed a two-point conversion pass as the holder.

As you may well know, every week, Newsday nominates the athletes of the week for each sport and puts them on a full page in the Sunday high school section.
There's like 10 of them. It's kinda hard to get on the list. So, since it takes me forever to make the nominations and it's dead quiet at Newsday HQ (What up, Good Friday), I thought I'd spend the time giving some (web) ink to the best...Read more »
It was a wild league championship Sunday in Suffolk girls indoor track, with numerous teams revving up for a run at a county championship this weekend. The National Field Hockey Coaches Association named its All-Americans on Monday and this, likely, will come as no surprise: Katie Trombetta was selected. Again.
The Sachem East star received first-team All-American honors for a second straight year, a day after being named Newsday's Long Island Player of the Year, also for a second consecutive year.
"I just...Read more »
Sachem North's boys swimming team graduated seven seniors, but their squad remains strong, coach Larry Saposnick said.
"The talent is spread out this year," Saposnick said." "I have a strong core and a handful of strong swimmers."
In their most recent meet, Sachem North defeated Lindenhurst 63-37.
Senior Derek Avila placed second in the 100-yard butterfly...Read more »
Commack had applied the brakes to one of the most potent offenses on Long Island for 48 minutes, but now it was overtime against top-seeded Sachem North and the road got a lot more treacherous.
The teams traded touchdowns and extra points on each of their first two OT possessions, ratcheting up the tension and the noise at rollicking Lake Ronkonkoma. But Commack finally turned the Flaming...Read more »
