It's often said that the finish is more important than the start. And on Wednesday, Ryan McEnerney proved that it doesn’t matter if you start, as long as you can finish.
McEnerney scored off a through pass from Cory Santangelo with 25 minutes left as Sayville edged Comsewogue, 2-1, in Suffolk League V boys soccer.
"He came off the bench and scored a really nice goal, which was set...Read more »
Dillon Boos, Steven Ferreira and Zach Sirico set the bar extremely high for Sayville quarterbacks as all three earned Newsday All-Long Island recognition between 2008 and 2012. Based on first impressions, 14-year-old freshman Jack Coan has passed his bar exam.
Coan completed his very first varsity pass in Saturday’s fifth Breast Cancer Awareness Day scrimmage against host school Bay Shore,...Read more »
Suddenly, Bobby Boos is quite literally the center of attention.
That’s what happens when you shift from right guard to center on the offensive line and take over what Sayville football coach Rob Hoss calls the team’s most important position.
“I’ve never snapped the ball before so I’m going to have to learn how to do that,” Boos said at practice Thursday. “It’s definitely a learnable...Read more »
Since he joined the golf team as a seventh-grader, Sayville junior Kyle Burke would set a goal for himself at the beginning of every year. It started with looking to qualify for the county tournament then grew to qualifying for the state tournament, and now before this season he aimed to win the state championship.

Dominique Soto didn't have much of a choice but to go behind the plate for the Miller Place softball team prior to its League VI game against Eastport-South Manor on May 1.
Soto, who is the Panthers’ regular third baseman, was tapped to play catcher by coach Danielle Hazen not only because she was capable, but because there was no one else to help fill the void.
“We knew she could do...Read more »
Savanna Juengerkes helped her sister Vanessa in a big way during Islip’s League V/VI crossover softball game against Sayville on Monday at Wing Elementary School.
Already leading 2-0, courtesy of Leslie Aubel’s two-run base hit in the bottom of the second inning, Savanna delivered a grand slam in the third off junior lefthander Julia Simpson to break the game open.
A six-run lead at...Read more »
Ok, it wasn't that much of an upset, considering we're dealing with the Suffolk Class B champs, here. But you have to admit ESM's prospects weren't looking good after this past month. Want proof?
March 22: Sayville beats Class A powerhouse Ward Melville. The entire girls lacrosse collective goes, 'oh, snap.'
April 13: Sayville manhandles Class C state champion Shoreham-Wading River,...Read more »
Well, that was fun.
This week, I got to see the human streak, Sydney Pirreca, in action, and spent half that game being afraid to jot anything down in my notebook, because every time I did, she'd zipped to the other side of the field. Mount Sinai = legitimate, opponents take note. Shoutout to their goalie, Julia Michaels, who's the best quote I've had in awhile (hey, it's the little things)....Read more »
