Dump and chase still working for Long Beach boys ice hockey

The Long Beach way of playing boys ice hockey is very simple.

"We like to get the puck deep and get it behind the other team's defensemen," Marines' 16th year coach Joe Brand said. "Just forecheck real hard and take that puck back."

Earlier this season, Kellenberg boys basketball coach Jack McCutcheon asked Long Beach coach T.J. Burke how his team was doing.

The reason McCutcheon was reaching out to Burke was because the Marines had been through a lot with superstorm Sandy.

Nassau boys soccer postseason opening matchups

Four outbracket games kicked off the 2013 Nassau boys' soccer postseason Thursday, featuring Class A wins by Sewanhaka, Lynbrook, Floral Park and Clarke.

All opening round Class A games take place on Oct. 25, as top-seeded Wantagh hosts No. 16 Clarke at 2:30 p.m.

Bethpage, the fifth seed, will host No. 12 Island Trees at 3:30 p.m. Sewanhaka, at No. 13, heads to No. 4 Southside at 7 p.m....
