Frankie Conklin, North Shore: The goalie was stellar, even in a 2-0 loss to Garden City. Conklin made 24 saves to keep the Vikings in the game against a Trojans offense that entered having outscored its last seven opponents 42-0. Conklin has made 42 saves with a .901 save percentage in North Shore’s last three games.

I'm going with "Applause" as the title for these, at least for now. And, yes, it's a sutble reference to the song. But it works for this... I think. As always, hit me @StephenHaynes4 or via e-mail with any suggestions, nominations or random whatevers. And a sound salute to this week's POTWs.
Emily DeGennaro, Shoreham-Wading River: She made 22 saves in the Wildcats' 1-0 overtime upset...Read more »
First one up this season, and I haven't thought of a snappy title for these yet (like "Kick-Starters" for soccer). Promise, I'll have a good one for next week's Players of the Week. But any suggestions or requests, feel free to e-mail them or tweet me @StephenHaynes4.
And here we go...
Charlotte Gelfand, Friends Academy: She made 17 saves in a 3-2 win over East...Read more »
Who knew Beyonce even had a song called “So Amazing”? I didn’t, until about five minutes ago when I went searching for song titles that had any possible correlation to Players of the Week. Then boom! It was a Luther Vandross tribute sung with Stevie Wonder. I think it works here.
(Tangent: Learned something in the process. I recognized Beyonce’s opening lines in the song from “True Love” by...Read more »
And we present to you the last regular-season installment of Players of the Week. Yes, the Nassau Class B tournament is underway and there were some big performances on Monday, but those will be included in next week’s batch.
Here we’ve got the independent women who rang the alarm and made us check up on their performances. (That’s three song title puns in one sentence. I think that’s about...Read more »
<plays Vitamin C's “Graduation.”> There. Did that set the mood for you? There’s only one week (and like, a handful of games) left in the regular season, and the close of this school year is coming up FAST. That also means there’s only a few editions of Girls Who Run This World left. If you think I’ve forgotten any great performances, email me. I tried to spread the love a little this week,...Read more »
As always, email me or @StephenHaynes4. Now, let's get right to it.
Katherine Zisis, Roslyn: In one of the more touching sports-related scenes you’ll see, Zisis, a senior with pulmonary stenosis and development disability, scored a goal in her first varsity appearance on Saturday. Zisis has been the Bulldogs’ manager for four years and, in Roslyn’s last home game this season, she was cleared...Read more »
Yes, I went throwback with the Destiny's Child "Say My Name" for the title. Got a request for another Beyonce-themed subject line on this, so we'll rock with it for another week. As always, suggestions and nominations are welcome. Shoot me an email or tweet at @StephenHaynes4.
And here are the girls who made us, well, write their names.
Nadine Hadnagy, Farmingdale She had five...Read more »
Another week, another spectacular batch of... spectacular. We present to you the Nassau girls lacrosse athletes of the week. (New song-pun title for these posts pending.)
And, as always, send any nominations or suggestions via email or @StephenHaynes4.
Caroline Finnen, Holy Trinity The junior scored a career-high nine goals and had an assist, leading the Titans in a 22-17 win over Mineola...Read more »
And here goes another batch of awesome – this week’s installment of Players of the Week. A tribute to the girls who made us “Ring the Alarm” and admire the way they’ve managed to “Upgrade” their teams. (For real, this might be the last week of the Beyonce theme. I’m running out of song titles to pun.)
As always, feel free to hit us up via e-mail or on Twitter (@StephenHaynes4 and @AlbaneseLaura)...Read more »
