Bellport baseball coach Bill Batewell has been a winner wherever he’s gone. Between the 30 years he spent at Sachem and the last six at the helm at Bellport, Batewell has now won 500 career games after the Clippers beat West Babylon, 6-1, Thursday, making Batewell the sixth baseball coach in Suffolk history to reach the 500-win mark. But Batewell feels he still has more winning to do. “At Sachem...Read more »
Well, that was fun.
This week, I got to see the human streak, Sydney Pirreca, in action, and spent half that game being afraid to jot anything down in my notebook, because every time I did, she'd zipped to the other side of the field. Mount Sinai = legitimate, opponents take note. Shoutout to their goalie, Julia Michaels, who's the best quote I've had in awhile (hey, it's the little things)....Read more »

The Flaming Arrows are “loving life right now,” coach Matt Brisson said. For good reason.

Standing in the way, though,...Read more »

After winning Suffolk League I last season, a strong group of field athletes has Sachem East poised to repeat.
The team boasts three of the top shot put athletes in Suffolk County. Senior Diamond Jackson will lead the group, already registering a 38 foot, 11 inch toss at last weekend’s Bishop Loughlin Games – the top distance in Suffolk so far.
Jackson, who played basketball last winter,...Read more »
Sachem East had the second- and third-place finishers in Suffolk County at 145 pounds in 2012. For a team such as the Flaming Arrows, there is no such thing as rebuilding -- it’s all about reloading.
Enter Jackson Mordente. The fifth-place finisher in Suffolk at 138 pounds last year is looking to secure a state championship at 145 in 2013.
“Jackson is wrestling with a lot of confidence,”...Read more »

In news that will surprise few – few who? – Katie Trombetta today was named an All-American for the second time by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The Sachem East midfielder was among 16 girls from around the country bestowed first-team honors.
The...Read more »
Wednesday’s match between St. Anthony’s and Sachem East was an opportunity for two top programs in Suffolk County to begin the long road back toward the county and state championships.
While Sachem East came away with a rather decisive 49-25 victory, it was the top returning wrestlers who were under the most scrutiny on the mat.
Two of St. Anthony’s wrestlers who participated Wednesday...Read more »
Maddy Molinari, Victoria Piscopo and Katie Trombetta were named to the field hockey All-Region team, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced on Tuesday.
Molinari, a Manhasset forward, was Long Island's second leading scorer with 30 points, and her 18 assists were the most. The senior helped lead the Indians to the Nassau Class B championship. Molinari was an All-State and Newsday...Read more »
