While Smithtown West’s Ben Bonhurst made headlines with his state record setting 65 foot throw in the shot put, many other outstanding athletes put forth stellar performances at the LI Elite Track Invitational, held Friday at St. Anthony’s. It was a wild league championship Sunday in Suffolk girls indoor track, with numerous teams revving up for a run at a county championship this weekend. Bay Shore looked as impressive as ever in winning League II, its 24th consecutive league title. St. Anthony's took first, second, and fifth in the 25-pound weight throw at the Southern Tier Invitational at Cornell University.
Joe Segreto won with a personal best throw of 63 feet, 10 inches, tops in New York and ninth nationally, throw coach John McCree said. James Leddy finished second, throwing 60 feet, one inch and Andrew Piracha was fifth with a 46 foot, three inch toss.

North Shore is the class of Nassau 'B', and the Vikings aren’t about to let the title streak end without a fight.

Fresh off an outstanding cross county season, Miller Place is yet again set to dominate Suffolk County small schools.
The Panthers showed that “small school” is only a bookkeeping adjective in the fall, reighning supreme over every team in Suffolk and taking the team title at the Division Championships.

They are the definition of dominance. In Suffolk girls track over the last two decades, it doesn’t get any better than Bay Shore. Steve Borbet’s bunch has won 23 consecutive league championships and 12 of the last 13 Suffolk large school titles.

The wait is over for Sachem North’s Melissa Michels. The Flaming Arrows sprinter has committed to run at Northeastern University next fall, the school has announced.
Michels holds Sachem North records in the 55, 60, 100, and 200 meter dashes. Last season, she placed fourth in the high school 55 at the Millrose Games in 7.27 seconds, a school record at the time. She was the first Sachem sprinter...Read more »
Half Hollow Hills West’s 1000 medley relay team, composed of Jarried Redwood, Jamir Blackman, Frederic Fils Aime, and Bryce Johnson, finished in one minute, 57.33 seconds at last weekend's New Balance National Championships, held at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, N.C.
