Waverly's Valley Bowling Center will host the Sectional All-Star tournament Sunday, which will include 24 of the top bowlers on Long Island (excluding those whose teams competed in yesterday's state championship), among them three bowlers who broke single-season records.
Leading the Nassau boys is Plainview JFK senior Matt Farber, who set a Long Island record with a 244 average. Smithtown's Gregg Reed, a senior, leads the Section XI boys, after posting a Suffolk-record 234 average. And the Suffolk girls feature Patchogue-Medford junior Jessica Calandra, who set the girls record with a 222.
Adding to the fun -- the Nassau and Suffolk teams will be paired in adjacent lanes. "Farber had an unbelievable year," Reed said, "so it's going to be extremely competitive."
"It'll be great to see Long Island represented so well," Section XI boys coach Rick Papandrea said. "And having those two [Farber and Reed] battling it out is a treat."
The Section VIII girls are led by Plainedge's Meghan Wing (204 average), Elizabeth Ferraro (Bethpage), Jessica Spindell (Clarke), Dhara Kadakia (Carle Place), Shannon Formas (Great Neck North) and Island Trees' Emily McLaughlin.
