Freeport coach Bob DeBonis earned the 300th win of his 24-year career with Freeport's 64-53 boys basketball victory over Carey Monday in the George Emma Classic at Freeport.
"I really owe it to a lot of the great players that I've coached all the years," said DeBonis, who has spent the last 21 years at Freeport. "They're the guys that win the games. It's a tribute to them that I'm able to accomplish this. When they leave, hopefully they are better basketball players, but more importantly, better people. That's what I'm most proud of."
Kyhiem Chaplain scored 13 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter and was named MVP for Freeport (9-3). Adrian Denner added 15 points. James Harrison had 19 points, including four first-half three-pointers, and was named MVP for Carey.
