High School Boys Basketball

Newsday runs a full-court press on Long Island high school boys basketball.

Terry Brutus transferring from Lutheran

Terry Brutus, who was averaging 9.0 points per game for the Long Island Lutheran boys basketball team, is transferring from the Glen Head school, Newsday has confirmed.

NYChoops.net first reported the 6-4 senior forward will attend Summit Christian Academy in East Lansing, Michigan, which is the home of Michigan State University.

Brutus, who turned 18 on Friday, scored a season-high 13 points in the Crusaders' 79-61 win over Elmont on Monday. But he wasn't with the team for yesterday's 81-65 victory over Transit Tech of Brooklyn.

"I wish Terry the best in whatever he pursues," said Lutheran coach John Buck. "Anytime someone leaves in the middle of the year, I become concerned for them academically. After all, these kids are student athletes."

The Spring Valley, N.Y., native will be replaced in the starting lineup by 6-5 sophomore Anthony Sbarro.

Lutheran (6-0) is Newsday's top ranked boys basketball team on Long Island.
