High School Boys Basketball
Newsday runs a full-court press on Long Island high school boys basketball.
All three Long Island teams acquitted themselves well in last weekend’s state tournament, even though only one brought back a championship. As legendary UCLA coach John Wooden used to say, quoting an ancient poet, “The journey is better than the end.”

**FINAL**: Harborfields fought valiantly in the second half, but couldn't overcome Jamesville-Dewitt, losing a 66-51 decision.
The Tornadoes cut it to a 13-point game with back-to-back baskets by McLeod and Fessenden to open the fourth quarter, but J-D went on a 14-0 run in a 2:54 stretch to extend the lead to 64-37.

Harborfields won the Suffolk Small School title with a 57-49 win over Port Jefferson earlier today at Stony Brook, but did it without two of its top three scorers — seniors Matt McLeod (pictured above) and Nick Fessenden.
Some thought coach Chris Agostino held them out becuase it wasn't a do-or-die game, but he insisted that wasn't the case.
