High School Boys Basketball
Newsday runs a full-court press on Long Island high school boys basketball.
All three Long Island teams acquitted themselves well in last weekend’s state tournament, even though only one brought back a championship. As legendary UCLA coach John Wooden used to say, quoting an ancient poet, “The journey is better than the end.”

**FINAL**: Friends Academy has punched a ticket to next weekend's state tournament with a 49-44 win over Tuckahoe. Godlis led the Quakers with a season-high 25 points. Hefele added nine and Costa seven.
Friends will play the Prep School at Grover (Buffalo) at 5 p.m. on Friday at the Glen Falls Civic Center in the state semifinals.

Class C: Friends Academy (14-4) vs. Tuckahoe (20-3), 4:30 p.m. -- After a 22-day break, the Quakers shook off the rust to beat Port Jefferson, 54-47, for the Long Island title on Wednesday. Friends Academy captured the Nassau Class C boys basketball title with a thrilling 53-52 overtime win against East Rockaway late Saturday night at SUNY-Old Westbury.
