**FINAL**: Wow, what a game! Steve Ascher, who finished with 22 points, tipped in a shot at the buzzer to give Mattituck a 68-67 win over four-time defending champion Malverne in the Long Island Class B championship game at SUNY-Old Westbury.

**FINAL**: Friends is the Long Island Class C champion for the first time since the 2007-08 season with a 54-47 win over Port Jeff. The Quakers outscored Port Jeff 34-14 in the second half.

Last week I posed a question about anyone wrestling the Sandler Award away from Long Island Lutheran star Achraf Yacoubou (who won the award last season), and later that night, St. Mary's Chavaughn Lewis outscored him (by two points) in the Gaels' 57-55 win at Lutheran.
So Lewis is certainly a candidate.

Can anyone wrestle the Sandler Award away from Long Island Lutheran or its star Achraf Yacoubou? The award, which is given annually to the top player in Nassau and Suffolk, has been given to a LuHi player the last three seasons, including Yacoubou in 2010.

Saturday's Long Island Class AA championship game between Half Hollow Hills West and Uniondale is now set for a 4:30 p.m. tip on Saturday at Hofstra. This is a small change from the 4 p.m. start time that was originally scheduled.

The Nassau Class AA and A finals on Saturday have been moved to Hofstra from SUNY-Old Westbury to accommodate the ECAC college tournament that will be played at SUNY-Old Westbury on Saturday.

The games have been moved to Monday night at Hofstra.
No. 1 Elmont will play No. 5 Hewlett at 6 p.m. Monday.

We’re in the thick of the playoffs and a large group of teams that were on the bubble here in past weeks have been eliminated from postseason contention.
