Welcome to Newsday's live blog fo the Long Island Class A championship. Suffolk Class A champ Harborfields (20-3) will take on Nassau Class A champ Westbury (17-4). 

It's a classic matchup of size vs. speed as Westbury features just one player over 6-2 on its roster. Harborfields has five players 6-3 or taller.  

Road to the LIC: Westbury topped Elmont, 45-42, in the Nassau Class A title game, while Harborfields defeated Bayport-Blue Point, 69-55, in the Suffolk A title game. The winner advances to the NYSPHSAA Class A semifinal, which begins on Saturday at the Glens Falls Civic Arena.

Westbury: Tyrece Redd, Sheldon Hagigal, Paris Abrams, Lamard Herron, Lukens Victor.

Harborfields: Lucas Woodhouse, Matt McLeod, Brian Lindo, Nick Fessenden, Matt Curry.

First quarter: The offense was a bit slow for both teams early on. Westbury started the game with two straight turnovers, while Harborfields missed its first three shots. After a foul shot from Nick Fessenden gave Harborfields a 1-0 lead, Westbury found its groove on defense and forced three quick turnovers, leading to six points.

Matt McLeod answered with a layup for Harborfields. Westbury leads 6-3 with 3:46 left in the first quarter.

Harborfields is finally finding a flow. Consecutive layups by Matt Curry and Fessenden has given the Tornadoes a 7-6 lead with 2:42 left in the first quarter. TImeout Westbury. 

 Sheldon Hagigial drained a three, followed by a layup from Lukens Victor have given Westbury an 11-7 lead with 1:16 left in the first quarter.

Tyrece Redd added steal and a layup and Hagigal added a three to end the quarter. Westbury leads after one quarter, 16-7. Hagigal has 10 points for Westbury, Fessenden has three for Harborfields.

Second quarter: Harborfields came out quickly as McLeod hit a driving layup, followed by a three from Patrick Ryan, cutting Westbury's lead to 16-12 with 7:02 left in the second quarter.

Harborfields continued with the hot hand as Curry and McLeod each connected on layups to tie the score at 16. But Hagigal answered with a layup off a feed from Abrams and a three on the next possession to push Westbury's lead to 21-16 with 5:32 left.

 Harborfields came back with two layups by Curry, cutting the lead to 21-20, but Abrams answered with a long three to put Westbury back up, 24-20, with 4:30 to go in the half.

Harborfields exploded for six straight points, capped by a Fessenden layup for a 26-24 lead with 3:05 left.

Westbury answered with a dunk by Lukens, tying the score at 26 with 2:26 to go until the break.

The rest of the quarter belonged Harborfields as Matt McLeod blocked a layup attempt by Abrams, hit a jumper, followed by four straight free throws. Harborfields leads 32-26 at the half.

THIRD QUARTER: Westbury started off hot with a three by Hagigal and a long two by Redd. Harborfields leads 32-31 with 6:19 left in the third.  

Westbury continued its run with a free throw by Abrams and a steal and layup by Herron. But Fessenden stopped the bleeding for Harborfields with a free throw. Westbury leads 34-33 with 5:23 left in the third. *Note: Westbury's Lukens picked up his 4th foul with 5 minutes left in the third.

Harborfields came roaring back as Fessenden hit a free throw, followed by Layups from Ryan and Curry. The Tornadoes lead 38-35 with 3:54 left in the third.

Westbury took a 39-38 lead on a three by Abrams, but Ryan came right back with a three to put Harborfields back on top, 41-39, with 3:15 left in the third.

Harborfields took control, ending the quarter on a 4-1 run. Harborfields leads 45-40 after three quarters.  

FOURTH QUARTER: Westbury answered the bell quickly in the fourth with four straight points from Hagigal, cutting Harborfields lead to 45-44. Fessenden answered with a layup off a feed from McLeod, pushing the lead to 47-44. But Hagigal came back with two free throws. Harborfields leads 47-46 with 6:05 left in the game.

This one has turned into a real barn-burner as the teams have traded baskets over the last few minutes. Harborfields leads 51-50 with 3:44 left.

Back and forth they go. Harborfields still leads 53-52, but Westbury's big man VIctor fould out with 2:11 left. But the Tornadoes only made one free throw for a 54-52 lead.

Westbury forced a 10 second violation and has the ball with 1:23 left. They took advantage as Mikel Hooks scored on a putback to tie the score at 54 with 1:11 left.

Fessenden gave Harborfields a 56-54 lead with 1:04 left. The Tornadoes had a great chance to ice it, but they missed two free throws. But Westbury turned th ball over and committed a foul with 24 seconds left. Harborfields leads 56-54 with 24 seconds to go.

Harborfields missed two more free throws and Westbury raced down court after the rebound. Redd fed Hagigal for a layup with 13.8 seconds left to tie the game at 56. Haroborfields had the ball with  a chance to win, but Westbury tied it up, forced a jump ball and kept possession.

Westbury took full advantage of the possession change as Hagigal hit a 15-footer as time expired to win it for Westbury.

WESTBURY WINS, 58-56!! 

Hagigal finished with 33 points. McLeod led Harborfields with 16 points.
