An ankle injury will likely keep Long Island Lutheran's starting point guard out until February.

Mike Florin, a 6-0 junior who was in his first year starting for the Crusaders, suffered a severe ankle sprain during a game Jan. 3 against Center Moriches. He was leading a fast break and took a bad step, Lutheran coach John Buck said. There was no contact with any other players on the play.

Florin will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks. That means his return, at the earliest, can come for the Crusaders' Feb. 5 game against Albany Academy. Or it could come after that. Lutheran plays at least six games in February.

6-4 junior Shaun Lawton has assumed the starting point guard spot in Florin's absence and is doing a nice job, Buck said. Lawton had 15 points in a win Monday night against Upper Room.

It also helps to have Villanova-bound junior Achraf Yacoubou to help pick up the slack when injuries happen. Lutheran is 10-2.
