Congresswoman Nita Lowey to hold rally in support of online ammo ban
Congresswoman Nita Lowey, a Democrat who represents part of Westchester and Rockland counties, will hold a rally Thursday with Rockland County officials to voice support for Democratic legislation that would effectively ban online or mail-order purchases of ammunition in the aftermath of the mass shooting in Aurora, Colo.
The proposed legislation aims to restrict the ability of Americans to buy unlimited quantities of ammunition over the Internet, or by mail order, anonymously.
President Barack Obama has so far rejected calls for new legislation as opposed to tightening or toughening existing measures to keep firearms out of the hands of criminals or the mentally ill.
Lowey will be joined by Rockland County District Attorney Tom Zugibe, state Assemb. Ellen Jaffee (D-New City) and other local officials at the event, which will be held at the Clarkstown Police Department beginning at 11 a.m.
