Matthew Finn scored with 10 seconds left on a feed from Kevin Teresky to give Whitman an 11-10 upset win over previously unbeaten Ward Melville in Suffolk Division I boys lacrosse Thursday. Finn had five goals and Matt Gierl added 12 saves for Whitman (3-3, 2-3).

The win is Whitman's first in school history against traditional Suffolk power Ward Melville, according to coach Bob Howell. Whitman's program began in 1959, Howell said.

"I'd like to play this game over again," Howell said. "Defensively, the kids played great and we had a lot of patience on offense."

Ward Melville, ranked No. 5 nationally by Inside Lacrosse, falls to 6-1, 4-1. Kevin McElhone (four goals) tied the score at 10 for WM with 2:09 left. Whitman's Teresky had three goals and three assists. - COREY McLAUGHLIN
