Connor English of Manhasset, Newsday’s 2009 Nassau County boys lacrosse player of the year who attended the University of Virginia for the past two years, has transferred to Cornell. Ten Long Island players were named to the prestigious 23-man U.S. Lacrosse under-19 team after intense tryouts July 7-10 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. It was Showtime at the Dowling College Brookhaven sports complex on Thursday night. More than 40 college coaches lined the sidelines to watch the Long Island Lacrosse Showcase, a Nassau-vs.-Suffolk tripleheader. Nassau won the Rising Sophomores (Class of 2014) game, 7-6. Here is a list of the All Americans from Long Island, as selected by United States Lacrosse. In all, 203 players were recognized as Regional All Americans. Later this month, a second and third group will be announced, and after that, 24 players will be named first team National All Americans and 24 will be selected to the second team. **FINAL** Garden City lost in overtime, 8-7. Jordan Evans scored on an assist from Matt Kopp with three seconds remaining in the extra frame. Garden City (19-3), which trailed throughout, had its 15-game winning streak snapped. Patric Berkery led the Trojans with three goals, while Tom Gordon scored two.
