Woodstick live on MSGV

The 120th edition of the Woodstick Classic between Manhasset and Garden City, the nation’s longest-running high school lacrosse rivalry, will be telecast live and in HD on MSG Varsity on Saturday night at 7 o’clock from Manhasset High School.

Manhasset, ranked No. 7 nationally by Inside Lacrosse, leads the all-time series, 66-53. Garden City is ranked 11th. A wrinkle this season...

Not very many changes to the top 10 this week.

Chaminade remains in the top spot, and only movement is Holy Trinity and Wantagh flipping spots.

This group has been tough to crack, as the group just outside seems to be doing a great job knocking each other off.

First the nitty gritty -- in Gregg Sarra's weekly Big 10, Chaminade remains at No. 4. The...

This list could look a whole lot different next week depending on what happens in several key games.

The big one, of course, is Wednesday night’s showdown between West Islip and Ward Melville on the Patriots’ turf at 6:30. Two good defenses might make for a low-scoring game. At the same time, Sachem North hosts Smithtown West in what most likely will be a high-scoring...

Chaminade's reign on top of Long Island lacrosse was short-lived, as the Flyers dropped an 8-7 decision at West Islip on Saturday.

But its reign atop Nassau will not end that quickly. After all, there's no shame in losing to a team that has now won 27 straight games.

All of the Flyers' goals for this season remain in tact, as they are still the front-runners for the CHSAA title.

And...

Suffolk Slant: Top 10

Look who is back on top? And did they ever really leave?

It was a statement week for two-time defending state Class A champion West Islip. First, the Lions defeated Sachem North, the team that handed them its last loss on opening day of the 2010 season. Then West Islip defeated Newsday’s No. 1-ranked team, Chaminade, 8-7, in a defensive battle on Saturday.

In that game, the Lions...

**UPDATE**: Stephen Tita, who assisted on Kevin Waxon's eventual game-winning goal yesterday, suffered a mild concussion on a hit from Peter Nicholls, accordring to coach Steve DiPietro. The blow, which came with 1:05 to go and the game all but settled, was punished with a 3:00 non-releaseable penalty for unnecessary roughness.

Tita laid on the ground for a few moments, but walked off on his...

So quickly things can change.

Garden City came into the season as the rightful owner of the Nassau throne, but has since been unseated by Chaminade, which is off to a phenomenal start.

The Trojans' 10-7 loss to Ward Melville, coupled with the Flyers' 10-5 win over rival St. Anthony's, did the trick.

Not only is Chaminade the top lacrosse team on the Island, it's also the top team...

Suffolk Slant: Top 10 teams

This is the first of our weekly Suffolk boys lacrosse rankings. Chris Mascaro will post a blog with the Nassau rankings. I’d suggest reading this list quickly because it could change rapidly this week.

There are two huge games on Tuesday that could scramble our poll. No. 1 Ward Melville, which defeated highly ranked Garden City, is at No. 5 Smithtown West and No. 2 West Islip is at No....

Here is a story courtesy of Justin Lafleur of Lehigh Sports Media Relations about former St. Anthony's lacrosse standouts Will Manny and Dante Fantoni, who have remained close friends in college despite attending UMass and Lehigh, respectively.

Both are standout sophomore attacks for their respective college programs.

Fantoni, a Hauppauge native, leads Lehigh with 34 points (24 goals,...
