Lorraine Hodgson scored the game-winner with 37 seconds left to give West Islip (1-1) a 14-13 victory over Smithtown East in a Suffolk Division I girls lacrosse game Wednesday. Wheatley/Carle Place 9, Glen Cove 5: Jim Baxter (four goals, one assist) scored on a feed from Owen Spisak with 5:00 left to break a tie at 5 for Wheatley/Carle Place (4-1) in non-league. Justin Breslin tied it for Wheatley with seven minutes left. Midfielder Patrick Shaw won 8 of 12 faceoffs and Brian Engbarth added three goals and two assists.
Center Moriches 12, Mercy 0: Tori Fahie went 4-for-4, hitting for the cycle, and added three RBIs and four runs to lead Center Moriches (2-0) in League VII.
Hampton Bays 3, Southampton 2: Lexi Giannone tripled and scored on Meghan McManus' double to give Hampton Bays (2-0) a 2-1 fifth-inning lead. Giannone went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and an RBI and McManus went 2-for-3 with a double, run and an RBI. Eighth-grader Marley Tyler pitched seven innings, allowing two runs with 10 strikeouts for her first varsity win.
Sayville 15, Glenn 0: Seniors Kathleen Maehr and Merissa Selts combined to pitch a five inning no-hitter for Sayville (1-0) in League VI. Maehr pitched three innings, with no walks and eight strikeouts, and Selts pitched two, with no hits, no walks and no strikeouts. The only Glenn runner to reach base did so on a passed ball in the second inning. Maehr, Emily Sellitti (two) and Selts all homered.Whitman 3, Newfield 2: Morgan Gieser singled to drive in Brianna Calby in the bottom of the seventh to win it for Whitman (1-0) in League III. Kelly Eng went 3-for-3 and scored the tying run in the seventh off a bunt by Calby. Linda Powell pitched four scoreless innings.
MacArthur 10, East Meadow 8: Kristen Brown hit a two-out, three-run home run in the top of the sixth to give MacArthur (1-0) a 10-7 lead in Conference AA-I. Katie Fitzsimmons went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Briana Lombardo went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Bellmore JFK 11, Calhoun 10: Sydney Yormack singled to drive in the tying run in the bottom of the seventh and scored the winning run on a wild pitch to lead Bellmore JFK (1-0) in Conference AA-II. Melissa Mavrogian went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the victory.Kellenberg 2, Holy Trinity 1: Allie Pisciotta's walk-off single drove in Stephanie Stiano from second base for Kellenberg (3-0) in CHSAA. Pisciotta finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
