Mary Cain has done it again.
The 17-year-old track sensation from Bronxville broke the national high school record in the 5,000-meter run Saturday at the Portland Track Festival in Oregon.
Cain placed sixth among the field of elite runners from around the world, finishing with a time of 15 minutes, 45.46 seconds. That performance qualifies her for the U.S. championships.
Cain broke the record of 15:48.91 set by Emily Sisson in 2010.
Poland’s Karolina Jarzynska, a 31-year-old Olympian, won the race with a time of 15:25.52.
Cain has been amassing an impressive resume of records. On June 1, she set new high school and junior national records in the 800 meters (1:59.51). In May, she broke her own record in the 1,500 meters (4:04.62).
