After No. 2 Jericho and No. 8 South Side split their regular-season series in boys soccer, it seemed fitting that the teams would meet again in the Nassau final at Adelphi Monday. After all, South Side was the only team to defeat Jericho this season.

In a matchup of two evenly-matched teams, Jericho (17-1-1) earned a 1-0 overtime victory to win its second straight Class A championship. Freshman Barry Sharifi scored the game-winning goal with 1:33 left in overtime off an assist from Derek Medolla.

"I was making a run and Derek saw me, he played the ball to me and I was able to score," Sharifi said. "It's really special for me."

"It feels good to beat a quality team like South Side and to be able to repeat as county champions," Jericho coach Dani Braga said. "Hats off to South Side, they played fantastic today."

Ari Lewis made seven saves in his 14th shutout of the year. For South Side (12-4-3), Thomas Germano made five saves in a great performance.

Jericho will face East Hampton in the Long Island championship at 4 p.m. tomorrow at Dowling. The Jayhawks defeated East Hampton in last year's LIC and the teams played to a 1-1 tie earlier this year.
