Cardoza gives No. 16 Roslyn upset win over top-seeded Lawrence

Brian Cardoza scored the winner off a feed from Zach Moskowitz with 22 minutes left for No. 16 Roslyn in a 1-0 upset of top-seeded Lawrence in a Nassau Class A boys soccer first-round playoff game Friday.

Ethan Rousso made four saves for Roslyn (6-5-2), which will face the winner of South Side vs. West Hempsted in a quarterfinal on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Syosset 3, Great Neck South 2: Shane Mandel scored the winner on a feed from Scott DeBenedittis in the 77th minute for No. 5 Syosset (12-2-1) against No. 12 Great Neck South in a Class AA first-round game. DeBenedittis tied it at 2 in the 65th minute on a penalty kick. Syosset plays at No. 4 Calhoun in the quarters Tuesday.

Plainview JFK 1, Uniondale 0: Jesse Randisi scored the winner in the 15th minute off a free kick from Brian Stone to lift No. 6 Plainview JFK (10-1-2) over No. 11 Uniondale in a Class AA first-round match. David Geyer had seven saves in the win. Plainview JFK plays at No. 3 MacArthur in a quarterfinal Tuesday.

Hicksville 4, Baldwin 1: Kyle Poetzsch had two goals and Michael Osmundsen had another in a two-minute span to lead No. 7 Hicksville (12-1-3) over No. 10 Baldwin in the first round of the Class AA playoffs. Hicksville travels to No. 2 Massapequa for a quarterfinal game Tuesday. Valley Stream North 1, Garden City 0: Juan Rivera scored the winning goal on a free kick with 20 minutes left to lead No. 5 Valley Stream North (11-1-1) past No. 12 Garden City in the first round of the Class A playoffs. Pio Bonfitto had four of his 10 saves in the final five minutes. Valley Stream North will face the winner of No. 4 Hewlett vs. No. 13 Clarke on Tuesday.GIRLS

Our Lady of Mercy 1, Holy Trinity 0: Ashley Maldonado scored the winner on a breakaway off a long ball from Elizabeth Carlson with 4:25 left to lead No. 3 Our Lady of Mercy (9-5-4) over No. 1 Holy Trinity for its third straight CHSAA Class A Championship. Kellenberg 3, St. John the Baptist 1: Christina Akalski had two goals and Carly Montgomery scored for No. 2 Kellenberg (12-1-1) in a CHSAA Class AA semifinal against third-seeded SJB. Kellenberg will play No. 1 St. Anthony's in the final Nov. 2 at 5:30 p.m. at Adelphi.

East Meadow 1, Syosset 0: Jacklyn Tortora scored the winner off an assist from Nicolette Wilson with 3:35 left to lead No. 8 East Meadow (2-11) over No. 9 Syosset in the first round of the Class AA playoffs. East Meadow faces No. 1 Massapequa in a quarterfinal at 4:30 p.m. MondayGarden City 1, Hewlett 0: Lauren Miesmer scored off a deflection with 13 minutes left and Kelsey Tierney made two saves for No. 2 Garden City (8-2-5) in a Class A first-round game against No. 15 Hewlett. Garden City will host No. 7 North Shore in a quarterfinal at 2 p.m. Wednesday.Plainedge 2, Lynbrook 1: Allyson Baner scored her second goal of the game on a rebound off the crossbar in the 62nd minute to lift No. 4 Plainedge (5-4-7) over No. 13 Lynbrook in the first round in Class A. Plainedge will play the winner of No. 5 Island Trees vs. No. 12 Valley Stream North in a quarterfinal Wednesday.
