Freshman Dylan Goldberg scored to put Herricks ahead and goalkeeper Zach Elgort made his third save in the shootout to preserve the win as the Highlanders edged Valley Stream South, 4-3, in penalty kicks Saturday in the consolation game of the Carle Place boys soccer tournament.

The score was tied at 3 after five shooters. Emerson Martins had a goal and an assist in the second half for Herricks (1-1), and the score was tied at 2 at the end of regulation.

South Side 2, Baldwin 1: Jack McKenna scored his second goal of the game on a corner kick 10 minutes into the second half for South Side. Thomas German made six saves in the win.

MacArthur 1, Division 1: Walter Rivera scored on a rebound with four minutes left in the second half to tie the score for Division in the Levittown Cup. Ryan Palusko had scored earlier in the second half.

Locust Valley 2, Oyster Bay 2: Jason Velasquez tied the score in the 86th minute for Oyster Bay in the Mineola Mustangs Cup consolation match.

Carey 3, Sewanhaka 2: Junior Jesse Matozzo scored the first two goals of his varsity career to lead Carey (2-0) in non-league. Jeff Castaneda added one goal and one assist.

Bellmore JFK 0, Mepham 0: Jake Silverman made seven saves, including a diving stop with nine minutes remaining, for Bellmore JFK in a scoreless tie with Mepham.

East Meadow 4, Clarke 0: Sophomore Billy Walsh scored the first three goals of the game to record his first hat trick for East Meadow. John Posillico added a goal on a free kick from 30 yards.

Kings Park 4, Floyd 3: Junior Kevin Carpenter (three goals) scored off an assist from Cody Wickham in overtime for Kings Park. Joe Kennedy tied the score with four minutes left in regulation for the Kingsmen.Copiague 1, Amityville 0: Anderson Aviles scored on a penalty kick in the 31st minute for Copiague. Junior Alexis Batres-Molina made five saves to earn a shutout in his first varsity game.

Brentwood 5, Bay Shore 0: John Interiano scored two goals and Carlos Escobar had a goal and two assists for Brentwood.

Sophomore Jazmine Fray won the 3-mile race in the Washingtonville Invitational with a time of 19:27, a school record, according to coach Martin Brown. Senior Mia Imbesi finished fifth (20:26). The Firebirds took second overall with 58 points, a point behind Monroe Woodbury.

girls volleyballKellenberg 2, Wantagh 1: Melanie McGuirk had 11 kills for Kellenberg (1-0) in a 15-25, 25-10, 25-21 win in the finals of the Wantagh Invitational. McGuirk earned tournament MVP. Brittany Cafiero had 19 assists, and Danielle Cafiero 16 digs.
