Escribano, Spitaliere propel Waldorf to IPPSAL title

Peter Escribano scored off a feed from Orin Pearce 15 minutes into the game Friday as top-seeded Waldorf defeated No. 2 Lawrence Woodmere Academy, 2-1, in the IPPSAL boys soccer championship.

Marco Spitaliere added a goal in the 27th minute on a scramble off a throw-in from Pearce to give Waldorf (10-3-1) a 2-0 lead.

Max Novick made 10 saves for Waldorf, which won its third IPPSAL championship in the last five seasons.

Waldorf will learn Monday if it will receive an at-large berth in the New York State Association of Independent Schools state playoffs.

Bryan Ruiz-Diaz scored for Lawrence Woodmere.
