Genett helps Jericho upset V.S. South

Alex Genett scored off a cross from Josh Yardeni in the 28th minute as No. 9 Jericho upset top-seeded Valley Stream South, 1-0, Tuesday in the Nassau Class A boys soccer quarterfinals. It's Jericho's fifth shutout in six games. The Jayhawks (11-2-2) face Roslyn at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Mitchel Athletic Complex. South is 7-3.

Great Neck North 2, Valley Stream North 1: Eden Ben Shimon scored off a pass from Charlie Roofeh with four minutes left in overtime to lead No. 6 Great Neck North over No. 14 Valley Stream North. Mathias Krogsman tied the score at 1 with seven minutes left in regulation for North (10-1-3), which travels to No. 2 Island Trees at 5 p.m. Friday at Mitchel Athletic Complex.

Half Hollow Hills West 3, Smithtown East 0: Donovan Fraser's hat trick led No. 3 Hills West (16-0-1) over No. 14 Smithtown East (8-7-2) in the first round of the Suffolk Class AA playoffs. Fraser's 25 goals broke the Hills West single-season scoring record set by Adam Homler in 1983, coach Doug Gannon said. Hills West, winners of 16 straight, will host No. 6 West Islip in the quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

West Islip 1, North Babylon 0: John Hassler scored off an assist from Sean Sepe, six minutes into overtime as No. 6 West Islip (14-1-2) beat No. 11 North Babylon.

Brentwood 1, Bay Shore 0: Junior defender Jeffrey Medina scored his second goal of the year on a feed from Carlos Escobar with 31 minutes left as No. 5 Brentwood (14-2-1) beat No. 12 Bay Shore. Brentwood plays at No. 4 Ward Melville at 2:20 p.m. Friday.

Commack 3, East Islip 2: Chris Bowden scored from 6 yards out off a cross by Nelson Vetter, 4:04 into overtime to lead No. 8 Commack (9-5-3) over No. 9 East Islip (9-4-3). Commack travels to No. 1 Sachem East at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Smithtown West 1, Northport 0: Mike Bennett scored on a penalty kick with 15 minutes left to lead No. 7 Smithtown West (10-2-3) over No. 10 Northport (9-6-2). Smithtown West advances to play at No. 2 Half Hollow Hills East at 2:30 p.m. Friday.


Islip 1, Miller Place 0: Rachel Cipriano scored off a feed from Morgan Santoro 7:34 into the first half as No. 5 Islip (6-8-1) beat No. 4 Miller Place (10-5) in the first round of the Suffolk Class A playoffs. Islip faces No. 1 Sayville at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

South Side 3, Wantagh 0: Christina Klaum scored three goals, two of which were assisted by Michaela Lynch, to lead No. 2 South Side (10-2-4) over No. 10 Wantagh in the Nassau Class A quarterfinals. South Side plays No. 3 Garden City in the semifinals on Saturday.


Miller Place 2, Shoreham-Wading River 1: Maggie Revera scored off a corner five minutes into the game and Tianna Parrella added a goal to lead No. 5 Miller Place (11-4) over No. 4 Shoreham-Wading River, the four-time defending Suffolk B champs, in the first round of the Class B playoffs. Miller Place travels to No. 1 Sayville at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Rocky Point 1, Southampton 0: Catlynn Kundrat scored off a penalty stroke with 20:25 left in the first half to lead No. 3 Rocky Point (13-4) over No. 6 Southampton. Casey Heely had five saves, including a stop on a penalty stroke with 29:23 left. Rocky Point plays at No. 2 Harborfields at 2:30 p.m. Friday.


Herricks 3, Bellmore JFK 1: Kim Givelechian had 11 kills and seven blocks and Paige Barnaby had five aces and eight kills as No. 6 Herricks (6-10) upset No. 3 Bellmore JFK, 14-25, 25-23, 25-17, 26-24 in the Class A quarterfinals. Herricks plays No. 2 South Side Friday at Clarke. Bellmore is 11-5.


West Islip 151.625, Hauppauge 150.75: Victoria Scuteri won vault with an 8.1 and Paula Pecorella got a team-best 8.75 on floor to help West Islip (7-0) clinch the League II title.
