Sayville's Dakota Edwards was named the Gatorade New York Boys Soccer Player of the Year today. Edwards was Newsday's All-Long Island Player of the Year. The 6-2 senior defender had eight goals and 12 assists in leading Sayville to the Suffolk Class A finals one season after winning the state championship.

Sayville's Dakota Edwards (above) was named the New York state Player of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Edwards, Uniondale's Nyder Chardonnette and Hills West's Donovan Fraser were named NSCAA All-Americans. It was the second time Fraser was named an AA.

One day after his birthday, Lucas Munoz celebrated in style. The Hicksville senior scored off a loose ball in front of the goal with 25:42 left in the game to give the Comets a 1-0 win over Webster Schroeder in the state Class AA finals at Middletown High School.
