Cassie Cancemi throws a no-hitter in Kings Park's 3-1 softball win over Harborfields
Eighth-grader Cassie Cancemi pitched a no-hitter with two strikeouts Thursday as Kings Park remained undefeated in League V softball with a 3-1 win over Harborfields. Cancemi walked two and allowed an unearned run in the third. Paige Julich hit a solo homer for Kings Park (5-0).
Sachem East 7, Patchogue-Medford 4: Marisa Gennusa's double in the top of the seventh scored Cassie Asselta and Marissa Smith to give Sachem East (3-2) a 6-4 lead in League I.
Miller Place 7, Mt. Sinai 6: Taylor Ludewig's single scored Bree Erario in the bottom of the seventh to win it for Miller Place (4-1) in League VI. Tori Carlo went 3-for-3 with three runs in the win.Sayville 4, Westhampton 1: Jessica Griffin went 3-for-3 with a solo home run and two RBIs and Emily Sellitti had a solo home run to lead Sayville (6-0) in League VI.East Meadow 7, Oceanside 0: Dina LaRosa's two-run homer highlighted a five-run fifth and Kerri Shapiro threw a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts for East Meadow (4-0) in Nassau Conference AA-I.
Mineola 3, Oyster Bay 0: Emily Skupp struck out four in a two-hitter and went 2-for-3 with two runs to lead Mineola (4-1) in Conference ABC-II. Valerie Fischer had an RBI single and Christina Palmenteri added a sac fly in the win.South Side 9, Floral Park 8: Victoria Boldis' single in the bottom of the seventh scored Katelin Benincasa to win it for South Side (1-3) in Conference ABC-II. Benincasa's run-scoring triple had tied the score at 8 one batter earlier.St. Anthony's 9, St. Dominic 3: Michelle Carbone struck out 10, allowed four hits and surrendered two earned runs in a complete game for St. Anthony's (2-0) in CHSAA. Lexi Reale went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Gabby Marcheschi had a hit and two RBIs in the win.
Long Island Lutheran 10, Waldorf 3: Sarah Bouzaida went 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs and Jen Giambrone added a solo home run for L.I. Lutheran (2-0) in IPPSAL.
Holy Trinity 1, Chaminade 0: Mike Huber struck out eight and walked two in a one-hitter for Holy Trinity (6-1) in CHSAA. Huber lost his no-hit bid with two outs in the bottom of the seventh on a single by Chaminade's Robert Hopes. Connor Doyle singled home Darien Poveda in the top of the seventh for the game's only run.
Ward Melville 1, Longwood 0: Chris Cepeda scored on an infield single by Greg Coman in the bottom of the first for Ward Melville (5-3) in Suffolk League I. Anthony Kay struck out 13 and walked two in a two-hitter. His no-hit bid ended on a single to Longwood's Aaron Floyd with one out in the sixth.
Patchogue-Medford 7, Commack 0: Matt Vogel struck out 16 and walked one in a one-hitter for Patchogue-Medford (4-4) in League I. Vogel struck out the final 11 batters of the game. Andy Garcia went 4-for-4 with two RBIs.
Kings Park 2, Comsewogue 1: Donovan Hunt scored Ryan Reynolds with a sacrifice fly in the third to give Kings Park (4-2) a 2-1 lead in League V. Reynolds' RBI double earlier in the inning tied the score. Dan Bennett pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk for the win.
Hauppauge 5, Deer Park 2: Nick Fanti struck out seven, walked three and scattered six hits for Hauppauge (4-5) in League V.
Rocky Point 3, Miller Place 1: Dennis McAllister's two-out, two-run single in the top of the 10th won it for Rocky Point (6-3) in League VI. Starting pitcher Trevor Mercier gave up a run, two hits and struck out four in seven innings and Joe Zabbara struck out five and allowed one hit in three innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.
Bayport-Blue Point 2, Glenn 0: Chris Brewer tossed a four-hitter with two strikeouts and a walk for Bayport-Blue Point (8-0) in League VII. Ryan Dollop drove in the game's first run on a fielder's choice in the first and Jake Liberatore's RBI single in the second scored Matt White to make it 2-0.
Freeport 9, Uniondale 0: Wesley Harwood struck out eight and walked one in a one-hitter for Freeport (5-3) in Nassau Conference AA-I. Endy Villalona went 3-for-5 with three runs and Ricardo Collado had three hits, two RBIs and three runs.
Valley Stream Central 1, Calhoun 0: Vito Friscia's home run in the fourth gave Valley Stream Central (3-6) the only run it needed in Nassau Conference AA-IV. Joe Picillo struck out two, walked two and allowed six hits in the win. Westbury 5, Roosevelt 4: Dennis De La Rosa went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI to lead Westbury (6-3) in Countywide. Kevin Castro entered the game with two on and nobody out and retired the next three batters to earn the save.
