Chaminade's Thomas Slattery and Sean Kelly turned in sterling performances Saturday in the state federation cross country meet in Wappingers Falls, N.Y.

Slattery completed the race in 16 minutes, 6 seconds, second behind Arlington's Sebastian Hanson (16:00). Kelly was right behind his teammate, finishing in 16:17 and fourth overall. Slattery and Kelly finished with the top two times from Long Island.

St. Anthony's had three runners, Jake Hensler (16:41), Patrick Tucker (16:51) and Patrick Ginty (16:58), finish in under 17 minutes. The trio helped the St. Anthony's boys team finish third overall, tops among L.I. schools.

Northport's Mike Brannigan (16:30) and Tim McGowan (16:36) finished in the top 15 and carried Northport to fifth place.

Tiana Guevara was the top Long Island Class B finisher in the girls championship race, finishing in 18:48 for Miller Place, tied for sixth.

The North Shore girls came in fourth, the best finish for a Long Island team. North Shore was led by Elizabeth Caldwell (19:09), who finished 19th.
