Confidence growing for SJB boys lacrosse
St. John the Baptist sure didn’t play like a fatigued team without its best player Thursday.
Without Tim Nowak (injured) and playing for the fifth time in seven days, SJB defeated host St. Mary’s, 8-2, in a CHSAA boys lacrosse game. Filling the void left by Nowak, who coach Larry Collins describes as the quarterback of the offense, Christian Turri racked up three goals and an assist.

St. Mary's, St. Anthony's and St. John the Baptist are the three Long Island teams in the CHSAA AA state girls basketball tournament, starting Wednesday. Semifinal games are Friday at St. John Villa at 5:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The championship game will be Saturday at Cardinal Spellman at 7 p.m.
