Keeling Pilaro, a male field hockey player, was denied permission to play for Southampton High School's team this fall.

Sachem East coach Tina Moon was named the High School North Region Coach of the Year by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Moon led the Flaming Arrows to the Class A state championship in November. The team captured its first Suffolk and Long Island titles en route to the state tournament, where it defeated Greene and Mamaroneck, both in penalty strokes. Sachem East midfielder Katie Trombetta was named a third-team All-American by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, which released its selections today. Trombetta, who last week had been selected to the NFHCA's All-Region team, led the Flaming Arrows to a Class A state championship last month and was among Long Island's top scorers with 28 points. Katie Trombetta of Sachem East and Garden City’s Alexandra Bruno were selected to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Region team, which was announced today.

Here was some reaction following Garden City’s 3-1 loss to Lakeland in the Class B state final on Sunday.
Emma Bozek scored off a pass from Shannon Scavelli with 21:50 remaining in the first half to give Lakeland a 2-0 lead. (Coincidentally, her goal in last year’s final also gave the Hornets a 2-0 lead.)
