Katie Trombetta of Sachem East and Garden City’s Alexandra Bruno were selected to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Region team, which was announced today.

Trombetta, a sophomore, led Sachem East to its first Class A state championship two weeks ago. The midfielder tied for fourth in Long Island with 28 points (14 goals and 14 assists). We’ve also received word from an anonymous source that she lit it up in the Field Hockey Festival in Phoenix recently.

Bruno, a Princeton-bound senior, led Garden City to the Class B state final for a second straight season, and scored a Long Island-high 31 points in the process. She assisted the winning goal in the Trojans’ 2-1 overtime victory in the state semifinal. The senior received All-Region honors in 2010 as well.

Congratulations to Trombetta and Bruno, both tremendous players – certainly deserving of the award. (A legitimate argument could be made for a couple more Long Island players to have been named, but that’s just me opining.)

NFHCA will announce its All-American selections on Dec. 12.
