Friends First To Score on GC, But Falls...

It took almost two months for a Long Island team to score on Garden City last season...

But on Tuesday, Friends Academy broke through...

Quakers' forward Taylor Ross scored against the Trojans in just GC's second game of the season...But her first-half goal was overshadowed by an eventual 5-1 GC win...

Mariah Pewarski netted her first hat trick, while Eleni Andromidas chipped in a goal...Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Williams made five saves...

I know, I know...The season just started...What's the big deal?

It wasn't until the Nassau County Class B final that another opponent notched a goal against the Trojans' suffocating defense -- and senior GK Elizabeth Gurskis...

(That player, by the way, was North Shore's Laura Wefer.)

At the time, keeping its unscored-upon streak in tact was just as important to the Garden City girls as remaining unbeaten...

The Trojans did manage to stay unbeaten, finishing the season 21-0...but the state champs weren't able to shut out everyone...

But let's face it: no other team on the Island could have allowed less than four goals in 21 games...
