Pardon this terrible pun, but… Rocky Point is getting “Rocky” points. By that we mean they’ve taken their lumps coming up and, though it isn’t always pretty, they’ve continued to ascend. Like the movie character. (Hey, I did say it was a terrible pun. But "Gonna Fly Now" kinda works because of the team name. Right?)
Anyway…
Third-seeded Rocky Point defeated No. 6 Southampton,...

Clarke won. And if you guessed it was a one-goal game that came down to the waning minutes… it simply means you’ve been paying attention. They pulled out another one.
The Rams edged fifth-seeded North Shore, 1-0, Monday in a Nassau Class B quarterfinal. Kristen Keller scored the winner with 1:30 remaining as No. 4 Clarke earned its first trip to the semifinals since 2001.
Clarke, this...

1. Garden City (13-0-1): They haven't lost a game this season and they're pursuing a 19th straight county title (a seventh consecutive in Class B). What more needs to be said? The Trojans had a first-round bye and will face the winner of the North Shore/Clarke game on Wednesday.
2. Cold Spring Harbor (11-2-1): The Seahawks finished the regular season with a 2-1 win over Clarke. A semifinalist...

1. Sachem East (15-1): The Flaming Arrows lost their first game last Monday, 3-1, to Smithtown East. However, they rebound with a dominating victory over Northport two days later. Sachem East players said the loss got them refocused. They'll face the winner of the Huntington/Lindenhurst game in the Suffolk Class A quarterfinals on Wednesday.
2. Sayville (15-0): They were the only Long Island...

Could the Suffolk Class A playoffs serve as platform for a running of the Bulls? If the last two games of the regular season can be considered a harbinger, it’s possible.
Smithtown East (14-2) finished as well as a team could’ve hoped – with an assist going to the schedule. They squared off against previously-undefeated Sachem East on Monday, and beat them 3-1, then wrapped up with a 2-0 win...

Patricia Habers had her right kidney removed in July 2009 after being diagnosed with cancer. She hosted a field hockey officiating clinic at C.W. Post less than a month later.
Now if that doesn’t epitomize persistent, pertinacious, passionate… Simply put, the woman loves field hockey. And, odd as it may sound, she loves refereeing. It’s that dedication to the game that has led, in part, to...

1. Sachem East (14-0): They sailed in three wins last week. They've proven themselves to be the best team in Suffolk Class A, but this team's true test will be in the playoffs. But, before then, they've got a couple quizes. They finish the regular season with tough games against Smithtown East and Northport.
2. Sayville (15-0): The Golden Flashes are still undefeated, but they've been cutting...

1. Garden City (12-0-1): Stop the presses! Brace yourselves for this one. Garden City... allowed a goal. Yes, it happened. They defeated Clarke, 2-1, last Monday but the goal, scored by Emma Foster, was the first the Trojans had allowed in seven games dating back to Sept. 19.
2. Cold Spring Harbor (10-2-1): The Seahawks had two dominant wins over Floral Park and North Shore last week. Victoria...

Massapequa coach Barbara Lowell
Ever had this many groups of sisters on the same team? “We’ve had several groups of sisters come through, but never three sets of sisters at the same time.”
What’s it like: “It’s so much fun. You start to see some of the sisterly bond if one of them gets hurt or needs something. The other one is always the first to run over and help out… This year the...
