In last Friday night’s 35-14 victory over Islip, Sayville quarterback Steven Ferreira did not have a big game, but he made the biggest play. Ferreira scrambled out of the pocket, recovered his own fumble, kept his cool and launched a 68-yard touchdown pass to Tom Hannan that broke a 14-all tie late in the third quarter.

For the game, Ferreira was 10-for-20 for 196 yards and two touchdowns. For the 2011 season, the senior Ferreira is 30-for-44 in the Golden Flashes’ first two games for an even 400 yards, with three touchdowns.

As Ferreira approaches two Long Island career passing records, we will chart his progress each week. He should move into fourth place on the yardage list this week after Sayville’s game Friday night at Westhampton.
