Week 3 featured upsets and surprises all over Long Island. In Suffolk, the most stunning result was Smithtown West’s 12-0 victory over North Babylon, in which defensive end Zach Naja scored both touchdowns for the Bulls. Another surprise was Newfield knocking off East Islip for the first time in 50 years, 23-7. So, of course, there is some juggling in my latest rankings.

Week 2 was a wacky one, with games being played on various days because of the Jewish holiday and the rain and lightning that struck Long Island on Thursday night. No changes at the top, but there was some expected early-season reshuffling of the deck in Suffolk.

Floyd: It’s all a blur

Fleet afoot as a sophomore in 2009, Stacey Bedell (above) has gotten even faster on the field. He is rapidly raising his profile off the field as well. Though the Floyd running back only packs 160 pounds on his 5-11 frame, the junior has already attracted attention from several major Division I schools in the Northeast.
