We're back here at Hofstra for the Conference IV final between No. 1 Seaford (10-0) and No. 2 Roosevelt (9-1).

UPDATE (1:00 left in the game): Roosevelt closes it to a 28-25 game, as Colter hit Khalil Wilson for a 12-yard touchdown to the back left corner of the end zone on third-and-goal. They (not smartly) went for two, but the pass failed incomplete.

The Rough Riders couldn't...

Conference IV

No. 1 Seaford (10-0) vs. No. 2 Roosevelt (9-1), 4 p.m. at Hofstra — First and foremost, this is a battle of running backs, as the Vikings' Justin Buckley (pictured, left) and the Rough Riders' Donte Colter are two of the best backs in the county.

Buckley missed these teams' first meeting with a high right ankle sprain,...

"Oh, oh I want some more, oh, oh, what are you waiting for?" — "Animal" by Neon Trees.

At this time of year, every team has an animalistic instinct to hunt down its opponents and destroy them.

It's no fluke to advance to a county final. You've got to be good. And you've got to know how to win once you get here.

Farmingdale, a perennial power, showed...

Conference II:

No. 2 Garden City (8-1) vs. No. 3 Wantagh (7-2), 10 a.m. — Want to know how good the Trojans' defense is? The most points they've allowed since a Week 3 loss to Carey was 14 to Wantagh in a 31-14 victory in Week 7. Linebacker Stephen Jahelka anchors a defense that has allowed just 60 points in nine games (less than a...

Carey's Quarterback Kyle Zahradka (11) hands off to

"You know we're superstars. We are who we are." — "We R Who We R" by Ke$ha.

Not going to lie, we here at the High School Football blog have a bit of a crush on Ke$ha. Actually, that's not completely true. I don't think Mr. Herzog knows who she is.

But me, yeah, I'm a fan. Or maybe it's just that I like to type the dollar sign where the "s" should be.

Either...

Oceanside quarterback Tyler Heuer (4) is tackled by

Boy, that Oceanside-Freeport game on Saturday sure did have a lot of playmakers.

First, we saw Oceanside go up 27-7 in the third quarter behind Tyler Heuer's three touchdown passes. But then Freeport answered back with two of Dan Olivier's four touchdown runs and another from Isaiah Barnes to make it 28-27. Then Heuer responded with a rushing touchdown. Finally, Olivier ended it...

"And you never say 'hey' or remember my name, and it's probably 'cause you think you're cooler than me." — "Cooler Than Me" by Mike Posner.

We don't like to admit it, but we're extremely vain here at the High School Football blog. We think we're cooler than everyone.

But come playoff time, the popularity contests go out the window. It comes down to which...

"Touchdown" Tyler Heuer and his Oceanside mates meet their stiffest test of the season to date on Saturday when they take the field at Freeport.

It's not that the Red Devils can't be scored upon — they've allowed 131 points in seven games. It's that they're the first team the Sailors have faced this year who can keep up with them on the scoreboard.

Freeport...

"I'm not afraid, to take a stand. Everybody, come take my hand." — "Not Afraid" by Eminem.

With just one week left in the regular season, teams must put away their fears.

Some need a win in Week 8 to make the postseason, others are fighting for a home game in Round 1, while a select few are battling for the regular-season crown and the top seed.

Oceanside,...
