Lynbrook takes nail-biter

Danny Kelly scored an 8-yard touchdown on a quarterback counter from a Wildcat formation with 1:56 remaining to win it for Lynbrook, 22-21, over Sewanhaka Saturday in a Nassau III football game.

Kelly, a senior, ran for a career-high 198 yards and three touchdowns on 35 carries to lead a ground game that racked up 348 yards for Lynbrook (2-3). After the go-ahead score, Raymond Thompson recovered an onside kick for Lynbrook to seal it. Trailing 21-7 with 2:58 left in the third, Kelly capped a 14-play drive with a 9-yard TD run, and the ensuing two-point conversion pulled Lynbrook within six.

Plainedge 28, Bethpage 27: John Johnson's 29-yard TD pass to Nick Frenger and the ensuing Dan Stock kick won the game for Plainedge (5-0). Bethpage's Shane Lackey scored on a 3-yard run on the next drive, but the Golden Eagles missed the two-point conversion as Kevin Walker and John Gullo made the game-winning tackle.

Valley Stream South 21, North Shore 7:Frank Accardi rushed for 301 yards on 20 carries, including touchdown runs of 89 and 39 yards, to lead Valley Stream South (2-3). Accardi had 11 tackles and a sack and Phil Crisci had six tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery.

Floral Park 28, Division 6:Tied at 6 on fourth-and-14 with 2:18 left in the first half, Connor Vidasolo hit Michael Nolan on the post for a 23-yard score to give Floral Park (3-2) the lead. Division fumbled the ensuing kickoff, which was recovered by Oscar Mejia to set up the next score, a 19-yard pass to Nolan with 48 seconds left. Vidasolo had 12 carries for 70 yards and went 4-for-9 for 68 yards and two TDs. Conor Horan had six carries for 78 yards and two TDs. Defensive end Matt O'Brien had 12 tackles, four sacks and recovered a fumble. DE Alex Ascani had 10 tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception.

Lawrence 55, Manhasset 7:Joe Capobianco was 7-for-10 for 267 yards and three touchdowns and ran six times for 43 yards and a touchdown to lead Lawrence (5-0). Eddie Robinson had two catches for 101 yards and a touchdown, was 7/7 on PATs and had an interception. Tyler Fredericks two TDs and 155 yards on 19 carries and added a pick-six. The Lawrence defensive starting unit has yet to allow a point this season.

South Side 27, Carle Place 13: Eric Willie ran for 232 yards on 19 carries and scored three times to lead South Side (3-2), including the 80-yard TD run to extend the Cyclones' lead to eight. Cole Considine went 4-for-7 for 54 yards and a TD Kevin Rafferty made 10 tackles.
