Several players were honored during Wednesday night's Nassau County Football Coaches Association awards dinner at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.
The list included Craig Berge of Massapequa, who was selected the winner of the New York Jets top receiver award. Carey's Dylan DeMeo, Sewanhaka's Jacques Francois and Farmingdale's Tom Kennedy were the finalists.
One of Berge's great games came in the Chiefs' 28-20 win over Oceanside in the Nassau I semifinal when he caught four passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns.
Locust Valley's Brian Drewes was named the recipient of the Roy Kessenich Memorial Scholarship Award, which is given to the top three-sport athlete in Nassau. Farmingdale's Dallas Creamer and Carey's Andrew Ris were the finalists.
The Kessenich Award goes to the student-athlete who exemplifies great academic credentials and a history of community involvement. Drewes wrestles in the winter and throws the shot put in the spring.
