Matt Heldberg's 9-yard touchdown run in the third quarter gave Smithtown West a 29-point lead on the way to a 55-7 victory over Whitman on Saturday in Suffolk II football.

Heldberg accounted for six total touchdowns -- three rushing and three passing. He threw for 260 yards. Kyle Mathie made four catches for 120 yards. Dan Cox led Smithtown West (3-0) with 13 tackles in Suffolk II.

West Islip 33, Smithtown East 27: Matt McKeon broke a tackle and ran down the sideline for a 22-yard touchdown with 57 seconds left as West Islip (2-1) erased a 21-12 fourth-quarter deficit.

Alex Barbera made a 46-yard catch on a pass from Sam Ilario on a vertical route with 1:30 left to get WI just inside the 30-yard line.

McKeon's 5-yard TD run with six minutes left tied the game at 27.

Andrew Federico gave Smithtown East (1-2) a 27-20 lead in the fourth with a 26-yard TD run.

Ilario had 241 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries, including a 56-yard TD run in the fourth to pull West Islip within 21-20. John Daniggelis connected with Kevin Schroeder for a 76-yard TD pass in the first and added a 12-yard TD run to give Smithtown East a 14-0 lead.

Riverhead 48, Central Islip 8: Mike VanBommel's 1-yard touchdown catch with 2:00 left in the first quarter gave Riverhead a 21-0 lead. Danny Czelatka had three catches for 110 yards and an interception. Cody Smith threw for 216 yards and two touchdowns. Ryun Moore made 10 tackles for Riverhead (2-1).

East Islip 54, Newfield 7: Matt Walter rushed for 129 yards and three TDs on eight carries to lead East Islip (3-0). Hugens Tranquille set a school record with a 103-yard interception return for a touchdown when he picked off a fade pass in the end zone and ran up the left sideline for the score, assistant coach John Caraccia said. Newfield is 1-2.

West Babylon 43, Centereach 18: Nick Gilley returned an interception 61 yards to give West Babylon (1-2) a 25-18 lead with 8:37 left in the fourth. Seconds earlier, Devon Smith-Martin had given WB a 19-18 lead when he cut left and burst through a hole for a 28-yard TD run.

Quarterback Davante Penn rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries. Smith-Martin had 125 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. O'Hara and Elijah Weigan led West Babylon with 12 tackles each. Centereach is 1-2.

North Babylon 39, Copiague 8: Jahjuan Winters and Brandon Sobotker scored two TDs apiece to lead North Babylon (2-1). Winters had 13 carries for 144 yards and Sobotker 13 carries for 120 yards. Matt Grassa's 11-yard TD run with 5:17 left in the second quarter gave North Babylon a 19-0 lead, after Winters and Sobotker had put North Babylon on the board with two early scores. Winters' 69-yard gain set up Jared Zeigler's 1-yard TD near the end of the half, which made it 26-8 at halftime. North Babylon rushed for 402 yards. Copiague is 1-2.
