Whitman's Alpy wins epee gold at Brentwood again

The final bout of the 2013 Jeff Wolfe Holiday Fencing Tournament was arguably its most compelling, featuring two of the top girls epee fencers on Long Island.

Whitman junior Alexandria Alpy defeated Ward-Melville’s Melanie Holl 15-8 to win the girls epee final at the Brentwood tournament for the second straight season.

Middle Country gymnastics wins League III championship

It had been eight years since Middle Country gymnastics won a championship title. This year, not only did they win the title in League III, but they finished undefeated, giving head coach Melissa Valentino something to be exceptionally proud of.

“All girls competed on this team and no girl was left behind,” Valentino said.

The Cougars finished the season with a team average of 147.96.

These days, Whitman senior goalkeeper Dan Zagorski believes his teammates are putting their soccer uniforms on with a much greater sense of pride than in recent years.
