The Long Island Lutheran girls basketball team was denied moving from Class B to Class A last season, but was approved to make the jump up in class for 2012-13. Long Island Lutheran will be eligible to play in the Class A Federation tournament.

"It's a good challenge for the kids," Long Island Lutheran coach Rich Slater said. "We want to compete against the best teams. This only will help."

LuHi was challenged in the Class B Federation tournament the last four seasons by Irvington. The Crusaders made the finals three of the last four seasons. They won in 2011 and lost in the finals twice to Irvington, including this past season.

"Irvington is really good," Slater said. "They can beat a lot of AA schools."

Long Island Lutheran will play Irvington during the regular season in late December in Westchester. The Crusaders played a lot of Class AA schools this past season and will do so again in the upcoming season.
