ALBANY - The Long Island Lutheran girls used a dominating pressure-the-ball defense to cruise to a 62-45 victory over Troy in Saturday's Federation of Champions Class A title game at the Times Union Center.

"Defense was the key to winning the game," said Katie Lavelle, who scored 13 points and made five the Lady Crusaders' 20 steals. Lavelle and Stacy Barrett, who had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, made the all-tournament team.

Point guard Boogie Brozoski (14 points, five steals, three assists) was voted Class A tournament MVP. She had 19 points and five steals in the semifinals. The Lady Crusaders, who finished 20-4, dominated inside, with a 38-14 advantage on points in the paint, and in the open court, with a 29-10 edge on points off transition.

In winning its second Federation title in three years, Lutheran built a 60-29 lead with 5:12 remaining and cleared its bench.
