Meghan King leads Shoreham-Wading River girls in double overtime
Meghan King had 19 points and 18 rebounds as Shoreham-Wading River held off Glenn Thursday for 59-49 double overtime win and a share of the Suffolk League VI girls basketball title.
King, who hit two free throws with 12.3 seconds left in regulation to tie it at 34 and force the first overtime, had four points during an 8-0 run in the first two minutes of the second overtime for SWR (11-1).
Courtney Clasen had 13 points and 12 rebounds and Shannon Rosati chipped in 10 points for SWR.
Glenn's Lexie Koenke hit a 15-foot baseline jumper with four seconds left in the first overtime to tie the score at 44. Monika Sivilli had 20 points to lead Glenn (11-1).
Sachem North 36, Ward Melville 33: Danielle Levine had 14 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and five steals and hit two free throws with 17 seconds left in overtime to provide the final margin for Sachem North (2-11) in League I.
Centereach 39, West Islip 33: Ally Purcell's three-pointer with 2:30 left in the fourth quarter gave Centereach (3-11) a 37-30 lead in League III. Jackie Buzaid had 13 points and nine rebounds and senior Madison Medina set a Centereach record with 10 steals, eclipsing Jenna Agostino's mark of seven in 2011, coach James Steigele told Newsday.
East Hampton 40, Bayport-Blue Point 33: Kaelyn Ward had 19 points and sophomore Carley Seekamp had two points and a career-high 15 rebounds to lead East Hampton (7-5) in League VI. Courtney Dess had seven of her nine points in the fourth quarter in the win.Center Moriches 78, Wyandanch 45: Junior Tori Fahie had 23 points, including seven three-pointers to lead Center Moriches (10-2) in League VII. Takia Plummer added 14 points, including four three-pointers and Claire Brady added 14 points for Center Moriches, which finished the game with 13 three-pointers.Clarke 48, Mineola 45: Hannah Zirkel (seven points) hit a three to give Clarke (2-11) the lead midway through the fourth quarter in Nassau Conference A-IV. Amanda Gargiulo (four points) hit two free throws with 13 seconds left to seal the win. Gavvy Martin had 16 points and six steals, Jessica Gibaldi had 11 points and Maryam Khan added eight points and 14 rebounds in the win.Locust Valley 42, Friends Academy 38: Brooke Spallino had 16 points and eight steals to lead Locust Valley (9-4) in Conference BC. Marissa Reyes had 10 points and nine rebounds and hit two free throws with eight seconds left to provide the final margin.
