Mikaiya Moore's clutch FTs boost Copiague

Mikaiya Moore scored 22 of her 26 points in the second half and overtime, including two free throws with 1.3 seconds left in the extra session last night, as Copiague took sole possession of first place in Suffolk League IV with a 49-48 girls basketball win over Bellport.

Moore grabbed an offensive rebound off a missed free throw and got fouled on the putback attempt.

With Copiague (8-2) trailing 48-45, I'Asia O'Garro was fouled while converting a putback, setting up Moore's final play.

Bellport's Arella Guirantes scored 11 of her 29 points in the fourth to help force overtime. Riverhead 49, East Islip 38: Naysha Trent had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Shanice Allen had 14 points and five steals for Riverhead (8-2) in League III. Manhasset 60, Lawrence 54: Jackie Albanese scored 23 points and Katie Giesecke had seven rebounds for Manhasset (4-2) in Nassau Conference A-III. Dina Goldstein had 29 points for Lawrence. St. Mary's 48, Holy Trinity 41: Mei-Lyn Bautista had 15 points and six assists to lift St. Mary's (7-0) in CHSAA. Alyssa James added nine points and five rebounds in the win.

Copiague 69, Bellport 68: Frederick Millar had 30 points and Kevin Roberts (10 points) hit a free throw with 5.6 seconds left to win it for Copiague (8-2) in League IV. Prince Hickson totaled 12 rebounds in the win. Dylan Overton led Bellport with 26 points.

Sachem East 53, Sachem North 50: D'Andre Smith had 17 points, including the winning three-pointer with 11 seconds left in overtime for Sachem East (3-7). Louis Ferrari (9 points) hit a three-pointer for Sachem North with 30 seconds left in regulation to tie the score at 45, forcing overtime.

Babylon 69, Southampton 60: Fernando Vazquez scored a career-high 32 points to lead Babylon (9-1) in Suffolk League VII. Brendan Laing added 18 points and nine rebounds in the win. Mount Sinai 55, Shoreham-Wading River 48: Jimmy Presser (7 points) hit back-to-back three- pointers with five minutes left to give Mount Sinai (6-3) a nine-point lead in League VI. Michael Guzzardi had 19 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
