Fortunato scores nine to boost Northport
Final: 18-5, Northport
The Tigers dominated from start to finish and, most notably, Cortney Fortunato scored nine goals. Northport will face Pittsford in the final at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Halftime: Northport has a commanding, 11-2 lead.
It's been the Cortney Fortunato show early on. The sophomore scored at 21:55 off a feed from Shannon Gilroy to put Northport on the board. Fortunato scored again 20 seconds later to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead, and notched a hat trick less than five minutes in (at 20:33) to put Northport up 3-0.
Fortunato struck again at 17:55, giving the Tigers a 4-0 lead, prompting the Rebels to call a timeout. The discussion in the huddle might've gone something like, "That kid, No. 15, she's a problem."
Two new things: A goal was scored and it wasn't Fortunato's. Kiera McNally got one off a pass from Paige Bonomi at 13:35 and Northport took a 5-0 lead. And Lakeland-Panas got on the board at 13:13 on Anna Jeszeck's goal.
Shannon Gilroy scored at 13:03 to push the Tiger's lead back to five. Fortunato scored AGAIN at 11:37 to make it 7-1. That's five goals in a little more than half of a half.
McNally scored her second goal at 10:35 to give Northport an 8-1 lead. The Tigers are scoring just about every time they get inside the arc.
Guess what? Cortney Fortunato scored again. She got her sixth goal of the half with 8:30 left before halftime. Northport leads 9-1.
Alexa Bonnes skipped in a bouncer with 3:12 to go before halftime to pull the Rebels within 9-2. Gilroy answered just eight seconds later to make it 10-2, Northport.
And you're not gonna believe this. Fortunato scored again - yeah, again - at 2:52 to give the Tigers an 11-2 lead. That's her seventh goal of the half. So, uh, some game she's having.
