LI wins Under Armour Underclassmen Tourney
In news that surely will stun everyone…A Long Island team won a lacrosse tournament!
The Long Island underclassmen girls team won the Under Armour national tournament, beating New Jersey, 9-8, in the championship game on Sunday in Maryland.
Team Long Island went 3-1 in the double-elimination tournament. Its loss was to Washington, D.C., 12-11, in pool play on Saturday. They beat Baltimore, 13-10, in the semifinals.
St. Anthony’s star Maggie Bill was named tournament MVP. The midfielder, a two-time All-American, is among the top-rated juniors in the country and this season helped lead the Friars to a fifth straight CHSAA Class AA title.
Cortney Fortunato (Northport) and Caroline Fitzgerald (Mt. Sinai) were named to the all-tournament team.
